Chapter 870
"Get out of my way." Yvette's voice cut through the tense atmosphere like a blade, her piercing gaze locking onto Horace. The icy authority in her tone made him shiver involuntarily, but he forced himself to stand his ground.
"You just don't want to save Evelynn!" he accused, his desperation spilling over. "She won't last long enough for you to make the antidote!"
Yvette's patience snapped. She kicked him aside without hesitation, sending him sprawling to the ground. Horace hit the floor hard, groaning in pain as the room fell silent.
Her sharp gaze swept over the remaining doctors. "Listen carefully," she said, her tone cold and commanding. "You have one hour. Keep her alive by any means necessary."
"One hour?" The other doctors exchanged bewildered looks, disbelief written across their faces. How could anyone create an antidote in such a short time? It was impossible.
"You don't need to believe it's possible," Yvette continued, her voice calm but firm. "All you need to do is ensure she stays alive for that long."
Though her words defied logic, there was something about her confidence that left no room for doubt. The doctors nodded hesitantly, each silently vowing to do their best.
One of them declared, "We'll do everything we can to stabilize her for the next hour!"
Without wasting another second, Yvette turned and strode into the lab, her figure radiating purpose. Horace glared after her, his fists clenching as anger and frustration simmered beneath the surface. He fully believed that she was deliberately refusing to use her acupuncture method.
The seconds ticked by, each one heavier than the last. Evelynn's heartbeat weakened at a steady pace, her face growing paler with every passing moment. The tension in the room was suffocating as the doctors worked furiously to keep her alive.
One of them finally sighed deeply. "Prepare the defibrillator."
Jordan stood at the edge of the bed, his face ashen. "If this doesn't work..." one of the doctors started. He hesitated before continuing, "Then there's nothing more we can do."
Jordan's heart ached as if it were being torn apart. His voice broke as he gave a small nod. "Do it."
The doctors began administering
shocks to her chest, their
movements brisk but heavy with the weight of inevitability. The sharp bursts of electricity jolted Evelynn's frail body again and again, but her heart showed no response. Her vitals continued to plummet, her pulse slipping further away.
After the final attempt, the lead doctor shook his head grimly. "Defibrillation failed.
President Locke, we've done everything we could."
Jordan's knees nearly buckled, but he caught himself, gripping Evelynn's cold,
fragile hand tightly. His voice cracked with desperation.
"Evelynn, please... just hold on a little longer," he begged. "Ms. Murray is making the antidote right now. She'll save you. She always does. Please, sweetheart. Don't leave me... Not now..." noveldrama
His voice trembled as he continued, "You told me you wanted to learn from her. You said you wanted to grow up and save lives, just like her. You can't give up now. Please, Evelynn..."
The heart monitor emitted a steady, haunting beep as Evelynn's heart rate flatlined. The sharp sound pierced through the room, signaling the approach of the inevitable.
With Yvette still absent, the doctors exchanged somber glances and sighed deeply. "Her vitals are gone," one of them said softly.
"We've lost her."
