Chapter 869
Yvette's usually composed demeanor cracked as a rare flicker of shock crossed her stunning eyes. "How did this happen?"
The medication she had left behind was meant to stabilize Evelynn's condition and buy time until the rare ingredients were sourced for the antidote. Now, Evelynn's health had deteriorated so rapidly that her life was in imminent danger.
Her lips pressed into a firm line, and her eyes darkened with a cold, calculating edge. Someone had to be behind this.
"I'll get there as quickly as possible," she said, her voice resolute.
Hanging up, Yvette grabbed her coat and headed toward the door. Just as she was stepping out, she ran into Wilson.
"Evelynn's condition has worsened. She's in critical condition," Yvette hurriedly said, her voice laced with worry. "I have to get to the Gray House immediately."
Wilson's expression softened for a moment at the mention of Evelynn, the sweet young girl they both cared about. His voice was calm but firm as he said, "I'll go to Yovara with you. Let me arrange everything. We'll get there as fast as possible."
Seeing the determination in his eyes, Yvette nodded. "Alright."
Their private jet landed at the Gray House ten hours later. The moment Yvette stepped out, Jordan rushed to meet her, looking as though the weight of the world had fallen on his shoulders.
"Ms. Murray!" he exclaimed, his voice trembling with desperation. His reddened eyes and weary expression betrayed just how much stress he'd been under. "You're finally here!"
Yvette didn't waste time on pleasantries. "Take me to Evelynn," she said simply.
Ge
Hurrying inside, she was led to Evelynn's room. The sight that greeted her made her chest tighten Evelynn lay motionless on the bed, her face pale and sunken, her breathing so faint it was barely perceptible. She looked like a shadow of the vibrant gifbshe had once been.
Even Jordan, who had carefully nurtured Evelynn back to health, couldn't prevent her from wasting away in such a short time. A small group of medical experts stood to the side. Including Horace, altof them looking helpless and defeated. When Yvette entered, they collectively exhaled in relief.
Horace, in particular, seemed uncharacteristically eager to see her. Though his expression was kept neutral, Yvette's sharp eyes didn't miss the flicker of excitement he poorly concealed. It was a strange sight.
"Ms. Murray," Jordan said anxiously. "She was fine just yesterday. She was even asking about you, wondering when you'd come back. And today..." His voice cracked, and he gestured helplessly toward the frail girl on the bed.
Yvette nodded curtly, suppressing her emotions as she checked Evelynn's pulse. Her porcelain-like face grew solemn as she focused. The results of her quit check- up were alarming-Evelynn's organs were failing rapidly, her condition worsening overnight.noveldrama
This didn't make any sense. Something wasn't right.
Her condition deteriorated, and the antidote was the only medication that could save her life at this point.
"The ingredients for the antidote-have you gathered them?" Yvette asked, her voice sharper than usual.
Jordan nodded vigorously. "Yes, they arrived late last night. I was planning to inform you today, but then this happened."
Yvette wasted no time. "Take them to the laboratory. Now."
Without waiting for a response, she strode toward the laboratory with great speed. Evelynn's condition was deteriorating too quickly. If Yvette didn't act fast enough, there wouldn't be a chance to save her.
Horace's face darkened as he listened in on the exchange. He had waited patiently for Yvette's return to Yovara, hoping to learn her advanced acupuncture method. Now, it seemed she had no intention of using it.
As Yvette reached the laboratory's entrance, Horace abruptly stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "Why aren't you using your acupuncture method to save her?" he demanded, his voice tinged with frustration and a hint of accusation. "Isn't it supposed to be miraculous?"
What do you think?
