Rejecting The Alpha Twins (Regan)

Xander POV

Today is the day. I can almost feel the excitement spreading through me as I clutch Regan's hand tightly, while she rests on the hospital bed, her face glowing while the doctor begins to place the probe of the ultrasound machine on her stomach. Xavier is holding her other hand and all of us are watching the nearby screen intently. I am beyond thrilled to find out what gender our pup is going to be, even though I know that I will be happy either way, so long as our pup is healthy. I shoot a look at Xavier and can see the wide grin on his face and the sparkle in his eyes. Regan is silent but clutching our hands so tightly that her grip is almost painful. I don't care. Right now, all I can think about is that monitor in front of me and what I'm about to find out.

"Your pup is developing at a normal rate" the doctor speaks in a kind voice, her eyes rising as she looks at all three of us who are waiting expectantly for her to divulge the secret only she knows.

"Here is its heartbeat" she indicated, the sound of our pup's steady rhythm filling the room.

I heave a sigh of relief. My pup, or rather our pup is okay. I grit my teeth, watching as the doctor slowly moves the probe over Regan's slightly swollen stomach. It's torture. Pure hell. I'm certain that the doctor is deliberately prolonging my agony. Xavier looks as though he's in the same amount of pain, while Regan is glancing between the two of us, a look of amusement on her face.

How can she be so calm at a time like this? Why wasn't she as anxious as the rest of us?

"As to the gender..." the doctor's voice trails off and she glances at Regan sharply, ignoring Xaver and me as if we aren't there.noveldrama

I take offense to that. We are the Alphas of the pack after all. She should be submitting to our wishes.

"Luna Regan," she asks sweetly, "are you absolutely certain that you wish to know the gender of the pup? If you are being pressured by certain individuals." She shot us a disgruntled glare as Xavier, and I stiffened in shock "then I can certainly have them removed or keep the gender a secret if that's what you desire."

Regan grins and eyes the two of us. My mouth drops open. "You wouldn't dare" I breathed as Xavier hastily nodded in agreement. "Nobody could be that cruel."

She looked as though she was seriously considering it though, her expression filled with glee.

"We aren't pressuring her" Xavier denies, glowering at the doctor. "It's our baby too you know" he added with a grumble.

Both of us fold our arms across our chests and glower at the doctor who ignores us. I'm not used to somebody who is not intimidated by us. I'm almost impressed or at least I would be if I wasn't getting so exasperated.

Regan giggled. "Thank you, doctor. Although I'm tempted" she darted a look at the two of us, almost doubling over in laughter at the offended expressions on both our faces "I don't think that would necessarily be fair to my mates who are dying to know. To be fair, I'm quite keen as well" she allowed.

It was childish but part of me wanted to stick my tongue out at the doctor at that remark. I refrained however as she sighed and turned back to the screen, looking at it closer and then giving another sigh.

"Very well," the doctor said nonchalantly.

I frowned. What in the hell was taking her so damn long? I was feeling impatient, shifting from one foot to the other, in an attempt to prevent me from grabbing the probe and trying to discern for myself what the gender was. The doctor smirked as though reading my mind. I had no doubts she was enjoying this. She must be some kind of sadist or something.

"Lana Regan, Alpha Xavier, Alpha Xander" she said and I stilled, anticipation flooding through me. "If you look closely here, at the pup's genitalia you will see that your pup is in fact" she paused for dramatic effect, "A girl or a little princess as I like to call it" she beamed as I stood there in shock.

Finally, We had our answer and it couldn't have been any sweeter or more magical,

A girl. We were having a baby girl. My eyes slowly met Xaviers. His grin was reminiscent of a Cheshire cat. A little Luna Princess, My lower lip quivered slightly as I looked at Regan, trying to picture a miniature version of her in my mind. I had no doubts that my pup, our pup was going to be just as beautiful as her mother, I blinked back tears.

"A girl" Xavier's voice is barely above a whisper as he repeats the doctor's words, while she nods at him, looking at him closely as though he's stupid.

He looks just as stunned as I feel. For some reason, it hasn't felt real up until now, but reality is beginning to set in. Regan looks delighted at the prospect of having a girl. She places a hand on her stomach, looking down at it with protectiveness.

"A sweet princess" Xavier whispered in awe.

"A girl" Regan murmured, her voice rising slightly in her excitement. "Oh, I can't wait. Your father is going to be so excited" she added turning to us.

My father was going to be ecstatic, I thought with an inward grin. He was looking forward to being a grandfather and having a grandchild to spoil. A girl would be something he would absolutely dote on. Suddenly Regan doubled over laughing as the doctor began to put the probe away and wheel away the ultrasound.

"What, what is it?" I asked in concern.

Had she lost her mind or lost the plot? I didn't understand. But Regan looked as though she was fine.

She continued to giggle, wiping away tears from her eyes. "I can only imagine how much she's going to have the two of you wrapped around her little finger and how overprotective the two of you are going to be," she said, shaking her head and cackling like a witch. "We will do nothing of the sort," I said indignantly.

Did she think that I would simply become unable to refuse due to our little pup's charm? I was no pushover.

She laughed so hard she cried. "Oh, I wish I could believe that. The two of you are in for a shock when she's born." She laughed even harder.

My lips curled into a smile despite myself. Part of me suspected that Regan was right. A little girl would easily have me wrapped around her finger, especially if she resembled a miniature version of Regan. Still, it rankled to know that Regan knew that as well. Xavier shot me a glance and then shrugged, deciding not to disagree with our mate. I sighed and helped to wipe clean Regan's stomach and get rid of the gel that had been left behind.

"This calls for a celebration," I said with as much cheerfulness as I could muster as she gently pulled down her dress. "What should we do?" I asked.

I was game for anything, or at least I thought I was.

"Hmmm," Regan mused, tapping her chin and glancing ruefully down at her stomach "How about a chick flick and some popcorn?" she suggested brightly.

"A chick flick?" I said in dismay.

Regan tended to enjoy musicals and romance movies, whereas Xavier and I gravitated to action and horror films.

She giggled at the look of horror on my face. "You might as well get used to it now before our princess is born. You're going to become accustomed to Disney princesses, tea parties, painting nails" she continued, beginning to move towards the doorway, a spring in her step "frilly dresses, boyfriends." "Boyfriends" Xavier growled, rushing to catch up with Regan. "The hell we will. Our princess is not dating until she's eighteen" he snarled.

I could hear Regan's laughter throughout the corridor as I began to catch up with them. It appeared that Xavier and I were already in agreement and debating how best to protect our pup. Regan on the other hand, was already beginning to picture the early years and plan accordingly. All of us were on cloud nine and nothing was about to dampen our spirits. Or so we thought. Nothing ever goes to plan and those we try hard to forget about or push to the back of our minds ultimately find a way to ingratiate themselves back in, uninvited and very much unwanted.
