Chapter 57
Chapter 57:
A dismissive voice suddenly reached Sheena, making her frown.
She turned to see a tall, slender figure coming down the stairs. Dressed in a casual suit, the teenager was very handsome and looked to be about 21 or 22. Upon closer inspection, one would notice that he bore a slight resemblance to Sheril Anderson. He was her younger twin brother, Logan Anderson.
Logan sported a neat, short hairstyle, had a characteristically wild and ornery look. He was blowing a bubble while chewing a stick of gum.
Sheena frowned. “No one in particular-where are you going?”
Logan curved his lip; he didn’t much like this aunt of his. He scoffed and replied, “Tsk. She’s not from around here, so she’s easy to bully, but you think you can mind your own business too?”
After saying that, he left the villa.
His attitude infuriated Sheena so much that she pointed at him and reprimanded Simon. “Look how you’ve spoiled that boy! Instead of doing honest work, he’s running around with other people all day!”
Logan was a college student, but he was skipping classes, had bad grades, misbehaved, and hung out with a bunch of rich second-generation heirs.
Simon also found his son a pain in the ass, but now was not the time to talk about him.
He had just frowned when he noticed Melissa, on the second floor, watching him.
Simon stopped, walked up the stairs and into the bedroom with Melissa.
A concerned Melissa said, “I just took a look at Mom. She hasn’t woken up yet, but the redness and swelling around her eyes is still there. Also, she still couldn’t see anything last night? What do we do now?”
He sighed and continued. “Honestly, what’s wrong with Sheena, why does she have to get so angry at a child? Keep an eye on her. If she gets out of line with her words, you need to shut her up.”
Simon gave her a wry smile. “Sheena is so stubborn. She’ll never listen to me.”
Melissa frowned. “What should we do then, are you really going to watch her push Nora away?”
A cold look immediately appeared on Simon’s countenance. “Of course not! I’m her uncle-I have the last word in this house! Although this time Nora beat him to the punch with her bluster, if it weren’t for Sheena being so overbearing .
…I’m going to protect Nora even if it means upsetting Sheena! I’m not going to let sister’s flesh and blood be left lying in the streets!”
It was exactly his sense of duty and responsibility that Melissa admired when she had married him back then. She said, “All right! I’ll support you.”
When the two finished talking, one of them went downstairs while the other continued to watch Mrs. Anderson.
When Nora woke up, it was almost noon. After a good stretch, she got up and grabbed her cell phone. When she saw the text message from her son, a happy smile formed on her face.
Pete went to the Quinn School of Martial Arts to practice martial arts every Tuesday and Saturday, plus he studied with a home tutor at the Hunts the rest of the days. That day was Sunday, so it was his day off.
At that time, he received a call from Solo. When he answered, the other party said weakly, “We’ve been investigating for a week, but we still haven’t found any trace that Justin was in California five years ago. Other than himself, I think there’s probably no one else who really knows how his son came about.”
For the past week, Nora had been holed up in the villa or investigating this matter.
For the sake of her son’s fate, she had to find out why Justin hated her so much.
However, neither of them had found anything. Nora sounded a little hoarse as she replied, “I see.”
“Do you want to investigate further?” asked Solo.
“Yes.”
“How are you going to do that?”
Nora got up, went to the bathroom and grabbed the toothbrush. She looked in the mirror: she was as pale as a sheet. She bared her teeth and said in a cocky, smug way, “I guess I’ll ask him directly.”
“…”
After hanging up, she washed up and went out.
Melissa was playing with Cherry in the small living room on the second floor. When she heard the door open, Cherry ran to it and hugged Nora’s leg. “Mom! Great-grandma is still sleeping.”
Nora was about to go over to take a peek when suddenly someone rushed in front of her. His outstretched finger almost pricked the tip of her nose. “Nora! What have you given my mother, why isn’t she awake yet?”
Sheena’s eyeliner was drawn very thickly and dramatically, making her eyes look terribly fierce. The way she spoke so harshly made her look like she was about to eat Nora alive.
Nora frowned and stared at her outstretched finger.
Melissa walked over and stood in front of Nora, blocking Sheena’s path. “What are you doing? Calm down and talk about this nicely, Sheena.”
An angry Sheena retorted, “Talk it over nicely? No wonder people say there’s still a wall between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law in the end. Aren’t you worried because she’s not your mother?”
Melissa’s expression changed instantly.
Simon snapped, “That’s enough, Sheena!”
Sheena glared at him and shouted, “Mom’s in a coma! Don’t you care? Or does that seem like a bother to you after taking care of her all these years!”
“…”
Simon and Melissa were so angry that they couldn’t even speak for a while. At that moment, a cold, clear voice came to them, “Who says Grandma is in a coma?”
Nora looked at Sheena and sneered, “Grandma is just asleep. Wake her up and everything will be fine, why are you making such a big fuss?”.
After saying that, she took the lead and headed for Mrs. Anderson’s bedroom.
The others looked at each other and followed her.noveldrama
Mrs. Anderson was blind and had limited mobility. Therefore, so that the others could attend to her, she did not close the door to her room. In this way, everyone could come and go freely.
Mrs. Anderson was lying on the bed at the time. Her complexion was flushed, and even the redness and puffiness around her eyes seemed to have subsided somewhat.
Nora called softly, “Grandma?”
Mrs. Anderson’s lips moved a little. Then she slowly opened her eyes. Her eyelids were swollen, so there were only two small slits where her eyes would be.
Melissa hurried to step forward and helped her sit up in bed. “Mom, how are you feeling?”
Mrs. Anderson looked at her blankly. Her reaction scared the hell out of Melissa. Just as she was wondering if she should send her to the hospital, she suddenly heard Mrs. Anderson say, “Melissa, you’ve aged…”.
Melissa was shocked.
Mrs. Anderson smiled and said, “Well, after all, it’s been over twenty years. It’s impossible for you not to age.”
At that moment, Melissa finally reacted. She exclaimed in surprise, “Mom, can you see me?”
Mrs. Anderson nodded. Then she looked at the others. As her gaze passed Sheena and Simon, she said, “They’ve all aged…. And you, Sheena. It’s been so many years, AND that bad temper of yours still hasn’t changed!”
Only at the end did his gaze reach Nora.
The young woman stood there with a distant look, as if she didn’t fit in with the family.
She had exquisite facial features. Her almond-shaped eyes should have made her look kind, but in her there was an added sense of arrogance and savagery.
She looked about 80 percent like her own daughter at the time.
Mrs. Anderson’s eyes instantly reddened. She approached her as she said, “Nora…”.
Although Melissa was also very protective of her, the concern of a blood relative brought an indescribable ache to Nora’s heart.
It was as if she was no longer alone.
Beside her, Simon’s eyes also reddened. “It’s been over twenty years, but we hadn’t managed to heal your eyes in all that time. To think that you can see now… Nora, what exactly were those pills you gave Mom?”
