Nora

Chapter 56

Chapter 56:.

Mrs. Anderson took a deep breath. With a blank, empty stare, she looked in the direction of where Sheena was and said, “I’m telling you to come out instead!”.

Sheena was stunned. A moment later, her eyes widened and she turned to Mrs. Anderson and exclaimed, “What did you just say, Mom!”

The old woman clutched her chest and said, “You have no respect for your sister, nor are you kind or loving to the children. You are not welcome here.”

“My sister again! It’s always about her!” A furious Sheena said, “Since we were kids, you’ve always been partial to her! But sister is gone now! All these years, I’m the one keeping you in her place!”

Mrs. Anderson gripped the white cane tightly. Her lips quivered as she said, “Never mind, Nora was only trying to help!”.

Sheena scoffed, “Mom, do you really think a wayward girl like her can cure your eyes? We’ve been to many doctors over the years, but none have been able to do anything. Why should she be able to, do you really trust her that much?”

Mrs. Anderson was speechless.

To be honest, she didn’t believe it either. However, Nora meant well, so she didn’t dare turn her down.

Seeing that he didn’t respond, Sheena continued and said, “You can’t see, so you have no idea how red and swollen your eyes are! How is that supposed to be a medical treatment? It’s obviously torturing you.”

Mrs. Anderson’s eyes were completely red and the area around her eyes was swollen as if she was having an allergic reaction.

However, this was actually a sign that the ointment was working.

He had not used his eyes for too long, so all the muscles in the area had already loosened and sunken. Without a more potent ointment, how could he recover quickly?

Nora was about to explain when Mrs. Anderson said, “You don’t have to say any more. I’m willing to let Nora try. She says my eyes will recover and I’ll be able to see again in seven days. If I don’t try it, how will I know if she can really do it or not?”

“You…” Sheena was so angry her eyes were red. “That’s the confidence you had in sister then, too. She said she’d be gone for a week, but in the end, she never came back! And now you trust her daughter, too? You’re so stubborn.”

She picked up her bag and headed straight for the door. As she passed Nora, she looked at her in disgust and said, “So, seven days, right? Okay, then I’ll be back in seven days. If your grandmother’s condition doesn’t improve even after so much torture from you, I’ll throw you out of the house even if it kills me!”

“Aunt Sheena.”

As Sheena was about to leave, she suddenly heard a cold woman’s voice calling her, stopped and looked back. Nora’s gaze was a little cold. The expressionless woman said quietly, “If I manage to cure Grandma’s eyes, I hope you will apologize to my mother.”

The way she spoke while standing put Sheena in a kind of trance. She felt as if she had traveled back in time and returned to a time more than twenty years ago. That familiar, determined figure…

Sheena restrained her thoughts and sneered, “Since you’ve inherited your mother’s gift of gab, I hope you’ve also inherited her talent for medicine? Otherwise, don’t hold a grudge against me if I have no mercy!”.

After saying this, he turned and walked away.

As he left, Mrs. Anderson sighed and said, “Don’t take it to heart, Nora. She was the one who respected your mother the most back then, and this is still true even now….. Ahh!”

Mrs. Anderson returned to her room as she spoke.

Melissa approached and quietly asked, “…Is it really okay for the area around your eyes to be so red?”

Nora patiently explained, “Yes, it’s normal. It will get worse over the next few days, but it will gradually disappear after seven days. It really doesn’t hurt.”

Melissa was relieved to hear that.

Then Nora yawned and went into her room.

Then Melissa went downstairs, where she saw the babysitter returning with Cherry. When she thought of how Cherry had made Sheena eat her own words the other day when she teased her about being uneducated, she smiled and beckoned to her.

Cherry obediently ran to her. “What’s the matter, Great Aunt Melissa?”

“Cherry, can you tell me something in Arabic again?”

Cherry had a huge question mark over her head. She replied, “But Great Aunt Melissa, I only speak English. I don’t know any Arabic.”

Melissa was taken aback – was Cherry acting that day?

She asked hesitantly, “What about your Math Olympiad studies, calligraphy contests, art contests, etc.?”

A puzzled Cherry cocked her head to the side and asked, “I haven’t even attended any classes of interest, so why would I enter competitions?”

Melissa: “!”

Seeing her hesitation, Cherry patted her chest and said, “However, I’m not completely useless, Great Aunt Melissa! I know a lot of historical facts.”

Melissa looked a little better. She asked, “What kind of facts does our little Cherry know?”.

“I know lots!” said Cherry triumphantly.

“Who discovered America? Michael Fassbender!”

“…”

“Who invented the airplane? Tom Hanks and Colin Hanks!”

“…”

Half an hour later, Cherry waved and said, “Don’t get too excited, Great Aunt Melissa. I know I’m super awesome too, yeah! Take your time to calm down. I’ll go play some games first.”

Only after she climbed the stairs did Melissa finally react.

The corners of her lips tightened as she looked up.

In the end, she could only let out a huge sigh.

It was all Sheena’s fault for saying such mean things the other day anyway. Besides, she even bragged about her daughter’s accomplishments, so Nora and Cherry weren’t to blame for lying to get out of trouble. It’s just that their bragging was a bit over the top….

Besides, if what they were saying about Cherry’s education was a lie, was Nora’s claim about being able to cure Mrs. Anderson’s eyes a moment ago also a lie?

Suddenly, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

Upstairs.

Nora took a nap after lying down in bed. When she woke up in the night and played with Cherry, she suddenly missed her son very much.

He didn’t respond even when she texted him.noveldrama

Nora got a little worried, so she decided to text Justin: “Mr. Hunt, are you asleep?”

Justin had just gotten out of the shower. When he saw the message, the corners of his lips curved upward and he quickly replied, “No.”

“Ah, is your son asleep?”

Justin looked at Pete’s bedroom door, which was securely closed, and replied, “Yes, he is.”

He guessed she thought they could only chat after her son had gone to bed. Otherwise, she’d have to take care of her son, wouldn’t she? That woman was surprisingly quite considerate.

Sure enough, after sending the message, her cell phone rang again.

She opened the message with one hand while drying her hair with the other. Immediately, her expression froze: the cell phone screen reflected only a single icy word: “Oh.”

And then?

Shouldn’t they find a topic of conversation and continue the chat instead?

Was she… being coy?

Justin coughed and sent a cold reply, “Something wrong?”

Three minutes passed. He received no response.

Another five minutes later, he still received no response.

Justin thought maybe his cell phone was broken, so he texted Lawrence, “Lawrence?”

Lawrence, who was far away in some remote corner of the earth, replied, “Yes, boss, can I come back?”

Justin replied, “No.”

“…”

At the Andersons’ house, Nora had already silenced her cell phone and tossed it aside when she learned that her son was asleep. With Cherry in her arms, she drifted off to sleep blissfully, completely unaware that a certain someone was tossing and turning in bed with a million thoughts swirling around in her mind that night.

Seven days later.

Sheena arrived at the Anderson’s house first thing in the morning. When the nanny told her that Nora was still sleeping, she scoffed, “Well, let her sleep. After all, she’s going to be kicked out of the house as soon as she wakes up.”

“Who do you think you’re going to kick out of the house?”
