The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 517 Meeting Late at Night

"I came here to see Dean," Celeste said bluntly, noticing Murray's lukewarm reception. Who wanted to waste time with small talk in this miserable weather?

Celeste knew their so-called old friendship was just a front. What really mattered was money. With that in mind, she dismissed her driver and glanced towards the Emerald City Police Department.

She then pulled a bank card from her handbag and discreetly slipped it into Murray's hand while they talked.

"Just a little something to show my appreciation. It's been a while since we last met. Congrats on your promotion! Sorry I missed your party."

Murray took the card without a change in expression. He looked at Celeste, his facial muscles twitching slightly as if he was trying to smile or maybe sneer.

Murray understood the situation but pretended to be indifferent. He asked softly, "Dean, huh? What did he do?"

Celeste was momentarily stunned. She hadn't expected the usually diligent Murray to be unaware of Dean's charges.

Did this mean there was a better chance of getting Dean out on bail?

If she could bail him out, she could renegotiate the deal with Smith Corporation.

After all, this was the deputy chief of police's decision. If Michael was unhappy, would he really appeal again?

That would make him seem unreasonable and overbearing!

Thinking this, a sly glint flashed in Celeste's eyes, and she smiled sincerely. "It's just some young people's quarrel, a trivial dispute. They were all drunk, and both sides are at fault."

"Unfortunately, Dean doesn't know how to pick his battles. We all know better, but he had to go up against the biggest family in Emerald City, the Smiths. He's just asking for trouble!"

In just a few sentences, Celeste subtly informed Murray that the dispute was only because of the Smith family's influence, and Dean was suffering unjustly.

Murray could read between the lines, but he thought Celeste was underestimating him.

Did she really think he would take her money? Or that he would act on her one-sided story?

Did she think he got his position as deputy chief of the Emerald City Police Department by accepting bribes?

Celeste's actions were clearly an insult to him.

Murray's eyes turned cold, and a barely noticeable sneer appeared on his lips.

He slowly took out the bank card and said calmly but firmly, "We're old friends. You don't need to give me money. I'll help you with some things regardless."

Celeste was overjoyed.

She hadn't expected to get Dean out without spending a dime. It seemed her connections were indeed useful.

She straightened her neck and her eyes gleamed with sharpness.

But the next moment, Murray took Celeste to the holding cell where Dean was detained. He only allowed her to visit Dean, pretending to be oblivious to everything else.

Seeing this, Celeste realized her last bit of influence in the Emerald City Police Department was useless. She couldn't bail Dean out and was bound to make a fool of herself in front of everyone in Emerald City because of her nephews.

It was all so ridiculous and laughable.

So, when facing Dean, Celeste's expression was anything but pleasant.

She took a deep breath and then looked at the dejected Dean with a cold smile. Her fingers, painted with bright red nail polish, tapped on the visitation window. When Dean looked up, she motioned for him to pick up the phone.

Dean hadn't expected Celeste to visit him.

He thought everyone in the Lancaster family was utterly disappointed in him— Archibald, Celeste, and even his parents in heaven.

So when Dean saw Celeste, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, and he forced a bitter smile. "Aunt Celeste, you came."

Celeste truly looked down on Dean.

As soon as Dean spoke, Celeste snorted coldly, her nail polish glinting in the sunlight. "Dean, you're happy to see me, aren't you?"

Dean, like a drowning man clutching at straws, had a glimmer of hope in his eyes, his voice trembling. "Aunt Celeste, please help me. I don't want to stay here for months. It's too long. I can't take it."

Dean always talked tough.

He acted like a decisive man who wanted to run away with Sophia. But without

Archibald's protection, he had no survival skills.noveldrama

Both of them were trapped by women; it was utterly ridiculous!

"Help you?" Celeste almost laughed out loud. "Dean, how can I help you? I need you to help me!"

Celeste's eyes turned cold, her face becoming distant. With only one officer watching, she spoke without restraint, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Because of you and Michael, my perfectly good deal fell through. Archibald is no help, and now, because of Emily, he's doing nothing all day. You've made everyone suffer!"

Dean was already torn between guilt and anger, and Celeste's scolding pushed him further into despair.

He didn't want this. It was all because everyone had forced him into this situation. Dean's expression grew darker, but Celeste didn't care.

Her main goal in coming to Emerald City was to finalize a deal with Smith Corporation.

But now?

Because of Dean, Michael had kicked her out for no reason, and now she had to come

to the police station and plead with them. Thinking of this, Celeste vented all her anger

on Dean.

The rain outside grew heavier, almost drowning out Celeste's scolding.

She didn't care about Dean's reaction and continued speaking.

"I was going to spend some money to get you out! But everyone here is so inflexible! Who would have thought there are still people in this world who don't care about money? They think they're so noble, but they'll suffer for it eventually!"

Dean hung his head in silence, the rain relentlessly beating against the window, echoing his helplessness and despair.

Celeste's every word was like a knife, stabbing his already shattered heart.
