Skating Towards Danger: A Mafia Hockey Romance – Dante’s Book (Mafia Hockey Series 2)

Skating Towards Danger: Chapter 28

I stare into Caz’s dead eyes, my own wide with shock, my skin clammy.

Blood pours from her neck from where her body is slumped on the white carpeted flooring, well now red, the blood staining it.

I’ve never seen a dead body before, heck, I’ve never seen someone killed in front of me before. Wait, does my momma count? I mean technically she was dead after she hit the roof of the car before I was knocked out.

Bile rises as Dante’s voice echoes, “Roman, I need a clean-up in my room.” he quiets for a moment before he snaps, “No, I didn’t fucking kill my wife, you fucking idiot, but I did kill Caz in front of her after she held a gun to my wife’s head.”

I flinch at his words as a figure comes into view and I look up as a hand touches my arm, and lock eyes with Rhett.

Wait, when did Dante call him?

Rhett’s face is stone cold, and he states, “Let’s go, sweetheart…”noveldrama

I swallow hard and look back at the dead body, Caz’s eyes still open, still covered in blood, and Rhett gently pulls my arm and pulls me out of the hotel room.

“Here, Paige put these on,” Rhett says as he passes me my jeans. I look at them in his hand and look down at my bare legs, Dante’s shirt just reaching the middle of my thighs. I blink before taking them, and slowly, very slowly, I put them on before Rhett hands me my sneakers next.

I can feel my heart pound as I bend and put them on, the sight of blood filling my vision, and I gag before I turn and vomit, unable to keep it in.

“Fuck,” Rhett curses before I feel hands in my hair, grabbing it, and I heave onto the floor, the corndog I ate at the game not tasting as good coming back up as it did going down.

I gag for a couple of more minutes before I hear, “Fuck, Rhett, is she okay?”

He replies, “She will be Roman, she’s just in shock.”

Roman sighs, “He shouldn’t have killed her in front of her.”

“He didn’t really have a choice, she had a gun held to her head,” Rhett mutters as I slowly stand, dizziness taking hold, causing me to grab Rhett’s arm in support before I lock eyes with Romans’s dark blue ones, ones like Dantes.

He gives me a sad smile as he approaches, then takes me in his arms, hugging me, and I place my head on his shoulder.

“Tell me you aren’t hurt?” he demands softly, and I mutter, “I’m not hurt.”

He killed her, without hesitation he killed her.

“Tell me you are not afraid of him now?” he demands softly again, and I rasp, “I’m not, I-I, what is it with people holding a gun to my head?”

He chuckles lightly and pulls back, cupping my cheek.

“I think you’ll be just fine,” he says, then looks at Rhett and demands, “Take her to the Chargers Arena. Dante will meet you there as soon as this shit is cleaned up.”

“On it,” Rhett replies before gently taking my hand as Roman kisses my head and then disappears into the room.

I swallow hard and allow Rhett to pull me towards the elevators as men follow Roman. The urge to go and make sure Dante is okay is high.

He wasn’t himself, he was angry, hard, but mainly at himself I think.

“You sure you don’t want any skates sweetheart?” Rhett asks as I slowly walk around the ice rink, trying my hardest not to slip on my butt.

It wasn’t long ago that I was in the family box watching Dante help his team win, but it feels like days.

We went from being together three times, to passing out to me here without him and a dead body in our hotel room.

“How did she even know what room we were in,” I mumble to myself.

Rhett replies, though, “She got the receptionist to give her the room number after blowing him, and not with the gun.”

I stop in the middle of the rink and look at Rhett with my nose scrunched and admit, “I didn’t need to know that little detail, Rhett, the receptionist is like eighty.”

He shrugs, “Seventy-eight, actually.”

I roll my eyes and mumble, “Whatever,” before he speaks again, and I look at him again.

He stumbles, “Hey Paige, when you and Dante are together, does he, I mean, do you uh like, uh, I mean…Fuck.”

I frown now, worry hitting me, and I ask, “Are you okay, Rhett?”

He winces and links his fingers behind his head and asks, “When you and Dante are in the act, do you like it if he sticks an object, say body spay canister inside you with his cock in your ass while you fuck his ass with a dildo?”

I slip on the ice in shock, landing on my ass with a thud, making Rhett wince and mumble, “I’ll take that as a no…fuck’s sake.”

“Ouch,” I mutter as Dante’s voice echoes, “Fuck me, please don’t tell me you got another crazy last night?”

Rhett groans and admits, “I got another crazy…”

“Never mind the crazy, please tell me you didn’t actually do it?” I sputter. He winces again, and I scrunch my face up in disgust and remind him, “When a woman says, ‘every girl likes it’, she’s talking out of her ass Rhett. What you two did will most likely be all over the internet by noon.”

He drops his head with a shake and mumbles, “I need to go wash my ass then speak to the team’s lawyer again, see you two in a few hours on the plane,” then walks out of the large ice rink and I blink watching him go as Dante comes onto the ice and suddenly my attention is all on him.

“Where’d you get the skates?” I ask knowing full well his are packed.

He chuckles and admits, “They’re on loan,” before he bends, holding his hand out to me.

I take it willingly, and he helps me up, but instead of keeping hold of my hand and helping me back to the non-slippery ground, he lets go of my hand, then grabs my ass with both his hands and lifts.

I gasp and wrap my legs around his waist, and he begins to skate around the rink, holding me close. I sigh because, wow, and wrap my arms around his neck as we lock eyes.

Worry stares back at me.

“Are you scared of me now?” he asks with concern, and I swallow hard.

“Do I like that you can kill someone with no remorse and little motivation? No,” I admit, and he snorts, “Little fairy, she had a gun at your head and was ready to take you to the docks and kill you. What more motivation do I need?”

I tut at him, “I wasn’t finished,” and he smiles, and I continue, “Do I understand that this is who you are, that you were brought up to be a certain person in a world I have no clue about? Yes. I know she had a gun to my head, and I know you saved me. I’m just in shock, Dante. I mean, that was a lot, the past month has been a lot.”

“Doesn’t answer my question though, baby. Are you scared of me?” he asks again, and I sigh, placing my forehead against his.

“I’m not scared of you,” I admit, “I love you, Dante, and I know you’ll never hurt me. I just need time to understand your world, especially after that happens right in front of me.”

He nods, “I can understand that, and I swear I won’t make it a habit, little fairy. I want to skate and be with you, so hopefully, the killings will be far and in between.”

I smile and close my eyes as he continues to skate, enjoying us being this close.

There’s just something about the ice and the person you love…

After a few minutes of silence, Dante murmurs, “I want at least four kids with you,” and I chuckle.

“Can we at least enjoy each other’s company before we plan kids?” I confirm, open my eyes, and lock with his.

He hums, “Maybe,” so I admit for the first time, “Can I skate professionally for a few years first, then?”

He halts on the ice, making me gasp and grip him, and his eyes race between mine. I smile and nod because, yeah, I want to skate professionally.

I want to make him, my parents, my little brother, Uncle Rocco, and Aunt Tyra proud, but most of all, I want to make myself proud.

I’ve been lost for so long, and I think I’m ready to be found again.

“I love you, little fairy,” he murmurs before pressing a small kiss against my lips. I whisper back, “I love you too, player,” and kiss him with passion.

He may be a killer, he may have been a player, but he’s mine, and I’m his. He brought me back from the brink, and I’ll forever feel grateful he got forced into my life.
