A Favor 191
"Did something happen to Logan?" I asked cautiously.

Miles hesitated for a moment before saying, "If you really want to know, you should ask him yourself."
His answer left me speechless.
But Miles quickly smoothed things over, as he always did. "What I mean is, even though you're not together anymore, it's natural to still care about him. You're not doing anything wrong."
I chuckled softly. "I just didn't want to make his current girlfriend jealous."
Miles laughed lightly. "Elaine, when you're free, let's grab a meal together."
Since he had just reassured me that we were like family now, I didn't see a reason to refuse.
After hanging up, I sighed in relief. It seemed like nothing had happened to Logan, but the dream still unsettled me.
Could it have been triggered by his question the other day-whether I'd be heartbroken if something happened to him?noveldrama
Our ten years together weren't something I could simply erase. Even if I wanted to, some part of Logan would always stay with me. But Ashton and I had already started a new chapter. Logan was now part of my past.
I set my phone down and prepared to get out of bed. Just as I did, a message from Ashton popped up:
"Are you awake?"
I hadn't even replied when another message came in:
"I made breakfast and left it on the table. Remember to eat it, and don't come to the office today."
Huh?
He was acting like a boss already. But then again, with his three-million-dollar annual salary, I supposed he had the standing to make such suggestions.
If Ashton had requested a day off for me, Alex would've surely agreed. Still, his actions made me feel slightly uneasy, as though he was overstepping.
Even though I knew he was just worried about me, I only replied with a simple, "Okay."
Despite Ashton's insistence, I went to the office after breakfast. My legs were sore, as if I'd climbed a mountain, but I didn't want to sit idle at home.
"Huh? What are you doing here? Didn't you take the day off?" Alex asked, holding a cup of coffee as he bumped into me.
"When did I say that?" I shot back, raising an eyebrow.
Alex froze for a moment before chuckling awkwardly. "Must've been my mistake."
He was clearly covering for Ashton. How strange, considering they'd only just met.

"Go on, get to work," Alex said, waving me off as he walked away.
"Mr. Hall," I called out, stopping him. "Did you know Ashton before?"
"Before?" he repeated, blinking innocently. "Does 'before today' count?"

I could tell he was dodging the question, so I didn't push further. Instead, I gave
him a mocking smile. “Forget it. Never mind."
I headed toward my office, but a colleague stopped me at the door.
"Boss, you're here. A client is waiting for you in the meeting room. They said they had an appointment with you."
Frowning, I asked, "Are you sure they're looking for me? How long have they been waiting?"
"They specifically asked for you. It's been almost an hour."
Curious and confused, I put down my bag and made my way to the meeting room.
When I pushed open the door and saw who was sitting there, the blood rushed to my head.
