Ashton remained still for a moment, not responding

I tilted my head, feeling a bit confused. "What is it? Have you changed your mind? Or..."

Before i could finish, his lips brushed mine in a soft kiss. It wasn't deep or rushed-just a gentle press that

silenced me. When he pulled back slightly, he whispered, "I do."

I smiled, my cheeks flushing red.

Ashton, who always carried himself with such composure, seemed uncharacteristically flustered. Though his tanned complexion made it hard to tell, the tips of his ears were clearly red.

We stood there in silence, still holding onto each other. The air between us felt charged withnoveldrama

something new and unspoken.

It was the unmistakable feeling of budding romance-sticky with nervousness, yet impossible to pull away from

We both wanted to close the distance further, but shyness held us back. For a moment, I wondered if we were going to stand there like this all night.

My legs were already stiff, and my back was starting to ache.

"Uh..."

"Maybe we should..."

We both spoke at the same time, our voices overlapping awkwardly. The moment became even more embarrassing, and we fell silent again.

Just then, my phone rang, breaking the tension. Ashton released me, and I fumbled to grab my phone. It was Nora calling.

Nora rarely called me, and her timing was impeccable-if not slightly unfortunate.

"I need to take this," I said, giving Ashton an apologetic look.

"Yeah, goodnight," Ashton said for the second time that evening, stepping back slightly.

"Goodnight," I replied quickly, turning away and sticking out my tongue playfully as I walked into my apartment.

Though this wasn't my first relationship, I felt as flustered as if it were. My heart was racing, and I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks. Once inside, I leaned against the door, taking a deep breath before answering Nora's call.

"Why did you take so long to answer? You weren't up to something naughty, were you?" Nora's tone was teasing, as always, but her instincts were sharp.

I hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "I have some good news to share."

"Let me guess..." Nora's voice grew playful.

I smiled, knowing she'd figure it out.

"Did you finally make it official with Mr. Drake?"

"Yeah, just now," I admitted, my voice softer than I intended.

There was silence on the other end of the line.

1 frowned. "What's wrong? Weren't you the one always rooting for us? Why are you so quiet now?"

"I'm just calculating whether my bank account has enough for your wedding gift," Nora finally said, her words making me laugh and sigh in relief.

"Oh, so you're planning to give me your entire life savings?" I teased.

"Exactly. And when I get married, you better return it double."

Her quick reply made me roll my eyes, though I couldn't help but smile. "You're such a planner, Dr. Bennett."

The conversation was cut short by a buzzing notification on my phone.

It was a message from Jeremy on Instagram: "Hey, are you still up?"

I frowned, and before I could process the first message, another one arrived: "I'll go to my dad's place tomorrow. Want to come along?"

Jeremy's messages felt inappropriate given the late hour, and I couldn't deny the flirtatious undertone. I couldn't afford to delay meeting Alfred, but responding to Jeremy now could lead to complications I wasn't ready to handle. If I agreed too eagerly, it might give him the wrong impression. If I refused, he might use that against me, knowing how much I wanted to meet his father.

The best response was none.

Snapping back to reality, I refocused on my call with Nora. I hadn't been paying much attention to her, but now I caught her saying, "So, now that you and Ashton are officially together... what's the next step?" "What next step?" I asked, still slightly distracted by Jeremy's messages.

"You know, the physical aspect," Nora said with a teasing lilt to her voice.
