Chapter 836 Apology from the Financial Crime Unit
In the evening, after Phoebe coaxed Hubert, Boris, and Noomi to sleep, she picked up her tablet to finish the tasks she hadn't completed in the afternoon. Her phone vibrated on the pillow beside her.
She picked it up and saw a WhatsApp message from Theodore, containing only a period.
Phoebe stared at the period, unsure of what Theodore meant, and then saw the typing indicator at the top of the chat box.
She didn't know what was wrong with her, but she found herself staring at the "typing" indicator, wondering what Theodore was going to send her.
Unconsciously, a few minutes passed, then over ten minutes. The typing indicator appeared and disappeared repeatedly, making Phoebe increasingly anxious.
Finally, she couldn't help but send a "?" message. The typing indicator disappeared and didn't reappear for the rest of the night.
Phoebe was speechless; was Theodore messing with her in the middle of the night?
Because of Theodore's antics, Phoebe didn't sleep well all night. The next morning, she went downstairs with dark circles under her eyes. Pamela came out of the kitchen with breakfast and saw her yawning.
"Didn't sleep well last night? Your dark circles are heavy." Pamela placed the Pancakes in front of her.
Tears welled up in Phoebe's eyes, and she shook her head. "There were mosquitoes in the room last night. I spent the whole night trying to kill them."
"No wonder. It looks like you got bitten by mosquitoes. Apply some ointment later." Pamela said, looking at the mosquito bites on her cheeks.
Phoebe and the kids all had delicate skin, and mosquito bites would leave welts that took a long time to disappear.
"Okay."
After breakfast, Phoebe went to the office. As soon as she entered, Lori came running over cheerfully, "Ms. Ziegler. Ms. Ziegler!"
"What's up? Are you bringing good news or bad news?"
Lori gestured excitedly, "It's definitely good news. The financial crime unit investigators are here, and they brought flowers and a fruit basket."
Phoebe frowned, "What's this about now?"
If possible, she hoped the financial crime unit wouldn't step into her company to avoid any bad rumors spreading.
"I don't know, but judging by their attitude, they seem to be here to apologize for their arrogance last time," Lori said angrily.
Phoebe handed her bag and phone to Lori and walked towards the reception room.
The two investigators from the financial crime unit were drinking coffee in the reception room. When they saw Phoebe walk in, they quickly put down their cups and stood up, their expressions friendly and humble. "Ms. Ziegler, how have you been?" Phoebe looked at the two of them. Unlike last time when they had stern faces, their expressions now were apologetic. One of them spoke first, "Ms. Ziegler, we realize that we took you in for questioning without fully understanding the situation. We've given it a lot of thought and reflection. We're here today to offer our sincere apologies." "Yes, we acknowledge that we made mistakes in our handling of the situation, which caused you unnecessary trouble. We deeply regret this and hope you can accept our sincere apologies," the other one added, with a particularly humble demeanor. Phoebe responded, "While it's the responsibility of businesses to cooperate with the financial crime unit, summoning me without verifying the source of your information was indeed a mistake on your part and has negatively impacted our company."
She actually knew that the financial crime unit was here to apologize because of Harper. Harper had said he would help her vent her anger, so she couldn't forgive these two so easily.

The two looked at each other, not expecting Phoebe, who was usually easy to deal with, to suddenly become so difficult.
They had initially planned to maintain their high-handed attitude from the financial crime unit and casually brush off Phoebe with a few words, as their status usually worked well in small enterprises.
But Phoebe did not buy it.noveldrama
And their boss had made it clear that if they couldn't meet Phoebe's expectations, they shouldn't bother coming back to work.
"Ms. Ziegler, we realize we acted carelessly in this matter. We're just regular people, and everyone makes mistakes. We hope you can find it in your heart to forgive us and not hold it against us," said the elder investigator, Jim Riddick, adopting a humble tone.
They had come today with the clear goal of satisfying Phoebe, especially considering Harper's involvement.
Their superiors had plans for Harper to work in Kedora to boost its economy, so they couldn't afford to offend someone of his stature.
They didn't know how Phoebe had connected with Harper, but it was clear Harper was willing to go to great lengths for her.
Seeing that the two were no longer acting high and mighty, Phoebe didn't push them further. She had vented her anger.
She said, "You two are investigators with the financial crime unit, carrying a mission and responsibility. As business people, we will fully cooperate with your investigation or any necessary corrections if there are issues on our end. However, government power should not be misused to the point where it disheartens and discourages us." "Yes, yes, you are right."
Phoebe didn't make things difficult for them. After a few more words, she saw them out.

As they entered the elevator, the employees in the open office area stood up and applauded Phoebe, "Ms. Ziegler, well done!"
They all understood the investigators' intention to apologize. Seeing those arrogant people being humbled made them very happy.
Phoebe smiled and said, "Alright, everyone, stop making a fuss and get back to work." Phoebe returned to her office and received a call from Harper. Harper's voice was gentle and kind, "Did the financial crime unit come to the company?"
"Yes, they just left," Phoebe paused and said, "Thank you for your concern."
"Silly girl, it's Daddy's duty to protect you. If you ever feel wronged, don't keep it to yourself. Tell me, and I'll stand up for you," Harper said.
Phoebe bit her lip. The word "daddy" was too foreign to her; she couldn't associate it with Harper.
"I-I have something to do; I'll hang up now."
After hanging up, Phoebe sat at her desk in a daze for a while before starting to handle her work. Suddenly, the office door was pushed open.
She looked up and saw Madison storming in angrily. She frowned. "Miss Reynolds, hasn't anyone taught you to knock before entering someone else's space?" Madison placed her hands on the desk, looking down at Phoebe, "Phoebe, don't you know it's polite to knock before entering?"
Phoebe frowned. Madison's expression, as if she had caught them doing something inappropriate, made her very uncomfortable. "He did come to see me. So what?"
