Chapter 433
Brad had a sliver of clarity left in his mind as he watched Nadine reach for the divorce papers on the coffee table. His temples throbbed with anger.
Unfortunately, he had to play the part of a drunken man who'd lost all sense of direction. He couldn't afford to say the wrong thing. If she figured out that he was sober, she would never go home with him. So, he pretended to be lightheaded and leaned his head against her shoulder.
Nadine was well aware that he was drunk and that there was no point in arguing with a drunk man. Ignoring his antics, her mind focused solely on getting him home and making him sign the divorce agreement. If he hadn't been so wasted, she would have kicked him into the toilet without a second thought.
It was a bit of a struggle to gather the divorce agreement because Brad was leaning on her. For some reason, it felt like the weight on her shoulder was increasing. It was as though... Brad was intentionally putting all his weight on her.
Could he be faking it? As soon as that thought crossed her mind, she stopped what she was doing, turned her head, and looked at the man leaning on her shoulder.
Nadine wanted to know if he was faking it, but his eyes were lowered, his long lashes casting shadows over his face, making it impossible to tell if he was pretending.
Nadine composed herself and decided to set Brad down on the couch. She would help him out of there as soon as she gathered her belongings.
However, Brad, who had been leaning on her shoulder, seemed to sense her hesitation. He deliberately adjusted his body so that he wasn't resting all of his weight on her. Consequently, she was able to retrieve the divorce agreement.
After picking up the pen that had fallen to the ground and tucking it into her bag, she helped Brad up, and they staggered out of the bar.
It was midnight by then. The streets were deserted, save for the occasional speeding vehicle that kicked up fallen leaves from the road.

The fallen leaves were tossed into the air, then drifted slowly back to the ground. The shadows of trees danced under the streetlights, stretching long and thin. Nadine helped Brad as they stumbled along, and she didn't flinch or falter in the face of the biting wind.
For Nadine, this was the perfect opportunity to get Brad to sign the divorce papers. If she missed this chance, she might never again find him this intoxicated.
The biting wind swept through, lifting the edges of Brad's coat before letting them fall again. The fleeting sensation seemed to mirror his loss of control over Nadine.
Even though he was leaning against her shoulder at that moment, his heart had sunk into a bottomless pit. He was aware that Nadine was dead set on the divorce. If he still wanted to come home to the light shining for him every night, he needed to make the changes Sammy had talked about.
However, she wasn't even willing to give him a chance to change. Brad couldn't help but feel disheartened.
Stumbling along, the pair soon
reached a small square. The square
was illuminated, but it was
completely deserted, save for a small fountain. The water gushed up from below, forming delicate sprays at the top.
Illuminated by the lights, the water droplets refracted into a rainbow of colors, creating a beautiful sight. Exhausted from helping Brad, Nadine stopped by the fountain to take a breather.
Just then, she spotted two of the Hamilton family's bodyguards nearby. They were close enough to keep an eye on her and Brad, but far enough not to be intrusive.noveldrama
Meanwhile, Brad's eyes flicked open, now sharp and clear, with no trace of his earlier confusion. He thought Nadine couldn't see him, so he gestured to the two bodyguards.
Even though she couldn't tell what he was trying to communicate, Nadine could tell that this jerk was clearly not as drunk as he pretended to be.
